Claude vs ChatGPT: what works better for business?

Almost every week I get the question: should we use Claude or ChatGPT? It is a good question, and at the same time the wrong one to start with. Because if you only ask the occasional question and read the answer, they feel very similar. The difference only comes to life when you stop asking loose questions and let AI genuinely run inside your own work. In this article: where the difference sits, how your data is handled, and how to choose without falling for the hype.

For a quick question it barely matters

Ask a question and read the answer, and the difference is mostly taste and what you are used to. Both models are strong, write well and help you move faster. If that is all you do, just pick what feels comfortable and stop comparing. You gain more by using it than by finding the perfect choice.

The difference shows in your own material

A chat forgets. Explaining who you are, what you sell and how you work every single time costs time and gives mediocre output. It becomes powerful once you capture your brand, your clients, your numbers and your way of writing, and let the model work with that. Then you are no longer talking to a blank window, but to something that knows your business. Your quote gets checked against your own terms, and that monthly chore becomes a button.

“The question is not which model is smartest, but which one knows your business best.”

Why we work with Claude

Honest answer: most of this works in ChatGPT too. ChatGPT is a strong generalist, makes images and has enormous adoption. We work with Claude because that is where we have put in the most miles. We build entire company systems in Claude, we work in Claude Code, and the model is strong at work and at code. That is not dogma. It is the tool we know deepest, so we get more out of it.

And your data?

For SMEs this is the most important question, and it is asked too rarely. Where does your data end up? Do not paste client contracts or personal data into a chat window. Look at the business settings: on a paid business account your input is not used to train models by default, and you can better control where data stays. If you want it truly tidy, run sensitive processing in an environment you manage yourself. Think about GDPR up front, not afterwards.

Choose the tool your team actually uses

The biggest mistake is comparing endlessly and then never really starting with either. A tool nobody uses delivers nothing, however good it is. Pick one, set it up on your own processes, and agree that everyone uses it for real for a few weeks. Adoption beats the perfect choice, every time.

Keep the human in the loop

Whichever model you choose: it takes over the boring work, you keep the decision that matters. A draft quote, a first outline, a summary, fine. But the final check stays human, certainly when it goes to a client. That is exactly what we are about. Not removing the human, but letting AI do the heavy lifting while the human stays at the wheel.

How we help

Not sure which way to go, or want to teach your team to put AI into daily work? We do that in a workshop at your own location, using your own work as the starting point. No slides about theory, but something that works by the end of the day. Feel free to plan an introduction and we will look at where the most time can be saved for you.
